What’s in this Philly Cheesesteak?

Key Ingredients for Philly Cheesesteak
- 1 pound of steak (rib-eye, round, or sirloin)
- 1 cup of yellow onions (chopped)
- 5 slices of Provolone cheese
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 4 soft hoagie rolls
- 1 red bell pepper (chopped)
- 1 teaspoon of Lawry’s season salt
Step-By-Step Philly Cheesesteak Instructions with Photos
1. Cut-Up Onion, Red Bell Pepper, & Steak
Chop up one yellow onion, just enough for 1 cup. If you have any leftover onions, they can be chopped up and bagged and then put into the freezer to use at another time.
Then, chop up the red bell pepper, and slice up the steak into small bite-sized pieces.
After that, in a medium-sized frying pan, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil together with the chopped onions and chopped red bell peppers.
Sauté the onions and red bell peppers on medium heat for 5 minutes or until the onions and red bell peppers are soft, stirring occasionally.
2. Add Steak and Brown
Add the sliced steak together with the onions and red bell peppers. Cook on medium-high heat and stir while the steak is browning, about 10 to 15 minutes.
3. Drain Liquid, Add Seasoning
When the steak has browned, discard any unwanted liquid (grease) from the frying pan. Then, reduce the heat to medium and add 1 teaspoon of Lawry’s season salt to the steak mixture. Mix thoroughly.
4. Add Provolone Cheese
Place 5 slices of Provolone cheese over the top of the steak, onions, and red bell peppers.
Continue cooking on medium heat while stirring the steak, onions, and red bell peppers together with the cheese until the cheese has melted.
5. Butter the Hoagie Rolls
This recipe uses 4 soft hoagie rolls. You can buy any brand of rolls you prefer.
Spread a nice amount of butter on the inside of each of the hoagie rolls, then place the rolls uncovered and slightly opened on a pan that will fit into the toaster oven or a sheet pan for a regular oven.
We used the toaster oven and set it at 400 degrees, but if you don’t have a toaster oven a regular oven set at 400 degrees will work.
Put the hoagie rolls into the toaster oven, or regular oven, for about 3 minutes or so, or however long to your liking, until the buttered inside the rolls are melted.
Note: Since we used a toaster oven, keep checking on the rolls if you are using a regular oven.
Take the hoagie rolls out of the oven when the butter is melted, and then divide the Philly cheesesteak mixture equally into each of the 4 hoagie rolls. And there you have it, oooh so delicious!! Enjoy!
